Fitness enthusiast and reviewer from Toronto

The Short Version

I go by Oliver Thompson, living in Toronto, and over the past several years I have chronicled my experiences at gyms and fitness centers throughout Canada.

This site came about after I grew weary of picking gyms based on advertising and vague tips, only to find the actual experience didn't match. I sought precise, candid details about what these places were really like. When I couldn't find them, I built this site.

How This Started

My workout routine kicked off at a small club near 123 Maple Fitness Ave in Toronto. It wasn't perfect, but it was accessible, affordable, and helped me stay consistent.

After that spot closed, I saw how fast the fitness landscape in Canada was evolving. New clubs opened, fresh concepts emerged, and marketing often outpaced genuine member experiences.

I began trying various gyms and classes, jotting notes after each visit. Over time those notes turned into this site, created to help others make clearer choices.

My Approach to Reviews

Each review here is based on actual visits and time spent inside the facility. I focus on practical details that matter when you are choosing a membership.

When I review a fitness center, I typically:

  • Take enough time to understand routines, peak times, and trends
  • Visit on varying days and different times
  • Try multiple training formats and coaches
  • Regularly use the amenities to assess cleanliness and comfort
  • Ask fellow members about what's consistent and what's not
  • Take notes right after each visit

I update reviews when significant changes occur: renovations, changes in management, price updates, or new facilities. Each article shows its last update date so you know how current the information is.

What I Look For

My priorities may differ from yours, so here is what matters most to me when evaluating a fitness center:

Comfort and Privacy: Does the space feel thoughtfully laid out for members, with clear boundaries and a tranquil vibe?

Equipment Quality: Are machines well-maintained? Is there sufficient variety? Are repairs handled promptly?

Crowd Management: Can you actually train during your preferred time without constant waiting?

Clean Facilities: Locker rooms, showers, floors, and equipment surfaces. Cleanliness shows how seriously management treats the member experience.

Honest Membership Practices: Clear pricing, clear rules, and no unpleasant surprises.

Beyond the Gym

Beyond training and writing, I live and work in Toronto. This project is here to make fitness choices easier and more transparent for people looking for the right environment.
